Dueling Fates Update Predictions: Nerfs, Buffs And More

Ever since The International 2017 concluded, the majority of the Dota 2 community has been expecting Valve to release the previously announced “Dueling Fates update”. However, with no word from the developers regarding the exact release date, apart from the official unveiling, the community has been quite displeased with the way things are going in the game.

Though the current 7.06 Dota 2 patch is by far the most balanced patch we have ever seen come out of Valve’s workshop, it’s been over four months since this patch has gone live. As a result, players have figured out which heroes are the strongest of the Meta. Consequently, the majority of the matches in Dota 2 now have at least two or three of these Meta heroes.
Valve did release a statement regarding the release of its upcoming “Dueling Fates” update, a few weeks back, highlighting that the update is in process of completion. However, since then, the developers have not yet announced or released anything, apart from a few minor client updates. Check out the announcement below if you haven’t already seen it.

“Our next big release will be The Dueling Fates update. We are still hard at work on it and don’t have an exact release date, but we are expecting it to take about another month to finish the content.”
As the situation stands, we have decided to take the time out and list down a few things which we think are going to be added in with the upcoming update. But before we went on our predictions regarding the Dueling Fates update, here are a few things which have already been confirmed by the developers.

Two New Heroes (Confirmed)

During The International 2017, Valve introduced two brand new heroes. Though, apart from a few details, not much was revealed. However, this much is certain that both of these new heroes will be added to the list of Dota 2 heroes with the Dueling Fates update.

Frostivus 2018 (Confirmed)

With the announcement quoted above, Valve revealed details regarding its upcoming Dota 2 event, Frostivus 2018. Currently, the developers are looking for ideas from the community to help them with the exact concept of the custom game. However, it is certain that it’s coming. When? This we don’t know, but we believe it will be released along with the update.

Pudge Arcana

Over the course of The International 2017, Valve had set up a competition in which one hero in the game will receive a special Arcana piece. The competition went on for a few weeks and after millions of votes, Pudge came out with the most votes. As a result, it is expected that by the year’s end, the Arcana for Pudge will be released.

Moreover, there are rumors which indicate that Valve is working on releasing the Arcana for Rubick aswell who lost to Pudge in the final round of the competition. To read more on this rumor, check out the 4chan leak posed later in the article.

Battle Pass

Last year, Valve released 3 different Battle Passes, two for its four Majors, with the final one for its The International 2017. However, since Valve has revamped its competitive season for Dota 2 and has set up a total of 11 Majors for the year, it will be interesting to see how Battle Passes work this year. All we can say is that there won’t be 11 different Battle Passes. That’s too much!

Custom Games Rework
Ever since the last few updates, the custom game /arcade mode feature within the game has become quite buggy. And since the developers are working on an official Dota 2 Custom game, Frostivus 2018, we believe the entire Custom game mode will receive a long due overhaul.

Item Additions and Changes
With every major Dota 2 update, comes Item additions and changes. And since we have been playing the current patch for Dota 2 for quite some time, we have an idea regarding the items which must be changed or tweaked.

The first item of the lot is the Mask of Madness which we think is quite overpowered in the game. While, on the other hand, the Scythe of Vyse needs to be buffed as it has become one of the most underwhelming items in Dota 2.

Furthermore, according to recent Dota 2 7.07 patch leak on 4chan, the Aghanim’s Scepter is getting a complete makeover. After the update, it is speculated that older abilities for a few heroes will return as part of the Scepter’s talents.

Plus, the talent tree will also undergo a few changes when combined with the Scepter. Even if these leaked details aren’t true, we can say that the Aghanim’s Scepter will be added for a couple of more heroes, at least.

Heroes Changes
Now it’s time for the most important bit of the update: The changes for the in-game heroes. A brand new Meta, so to speak. In the past four months, players have been exploiting the 7.06 Meta by playing with a handful of characters that are quite overpowered in the game. In the community, these heroes are now considered Cancer, as they are picked in almost every game due to their Meta advantage. As a result, making predictions – on which heroes are going to receive changes – is quite apparent. So let’s begin:
