How to git gud? (new to Dota 2) in General Discussion
Sindri

Hey guys. I am new to Dota 2, though I played some other MOBAs (dota 1 2007-2010, hon 2009-2014, hots 2015-2016), trying to get good here.

Experience in other mobas (most importantly hon, it's quite similar in many aspects) translates into the way that I can farm quite well (but as I can see it's not 2012 and people can farm in general) and do fairly well in 1v1 lane situations. I also remember some stuff like swapping stat on boots to regen/use waveclear. But what I really suck at is teamfights and decisionmaking, and general game knowledge. When I build a hero I just try to follow some guy's build. When I enter a teamfight I act extremely irrational, often forgetting to use some skills or items. I don't know when it is a good time to gank, so when I mid I generally play passively and farm a lot - but again, I can't transition my farm into a win.

I have to play with 4-5k mmr players, often being the weakest link in team. Trying to practice offlane as durable heroes seem to be the most forgiving when I make a mistake in a teamfight.

Are there any good guides like "advanced dota tips"? Or "decisionmaking and how not to suck in teamfights"? A meta guide - which heroes should be picked, which items are considered good? Maybe there are some good pub players you can recommend me to watch? (most interested in offlane players but others are also cool) There are plenty of information on the internets, but most cover basic stuff.

Those channels are shit old, some of them must be going on 3 years now. Just avoid baumi at all costs and you'll be fine he's a bigger nob than cuki

this professor fierce guys is dead, I mean seriously he passed away. His guide how to 1v1 and some other stuff to this day is still useful, even tho some parts are outdated, cuz its like 3-4 years old I think.

              Baumi gives me aids
Fml he doesn't do MMR cuz he thinks the number is useless/gets judged for it
He is probably 2 or 3k anyway

Kk, I'll check those out. What about written guides? Honestly prefer reading to watching.

I don't know any other guide which isn't taylored for scrublords to figure out how to last hit

Baumi is actually upwards of 6K as seen on his in-game profile once.
He's alright, I'm not his biggest fan but he doesn't deserve all thw hate he gets. Some of his videos on Pos. 1 and 2 roles/heroes are insightful but you'd have to sift through quite a few of them to find a really good one.
I'd say your best bet is Purge and watching his series with Day 9.

Does read/watch guide really improve your gameplay?

Meanwhile Learn from mistake tf And gank really improve my gameplay a lot
