Should axe finish crimson guard, sell vanguard, or finish abyssal blade? in General Discussion

Let's say you didn't get to make CG early in the game, and now it's 40 minutes. Do you ever think about finishing that abyssal blade to become the ultimate anti-bkb machine or do you just sell vanguard, and under what circumstances?

According to Abadass Abyssal is justified in the sense that it can let you lockdown the enemy carry twice as long because Call --> Aby stun --> Call.

Crimson Guard is a shit item. Maybe consider if against a retarded Drow strat since it affects buildings now iirc.

So basically abyssal is competing against refresher, more than against cg, I guess. Refresher is 5200 gold, so abyssal is 1200 gold more expensive. I guess it'd probably be worth to even sell vanguard (if you have another tank item, especially), and just straight up get a refresher?

I know this topic was mainly about what to do with vanguard but the more I think of it, if you come to a stage where you want more lockdown and can afford it, I feel like refresher is superior to everything else.

You may be tanky af but your mana is still small, and you won't have any mana-enhancing items in your inventory. You fill slots too fast to carry a Mango around, and leaving it in backpack leaves chance where it can't be used. You are buying a 5200 gold item just to get two Calls. Even then you might not get enough Hungers and Culls off because of mana problems. Why not progress to the natural buildup of your close-to-core item and be cheeky with bashes?

I hope you realize that "just two calls" are actually a 6.4sec long bkb-piercing disable where enemies keep killing themselves on blademail. It can absolutely obliterate the enemy team in certain scenarios. A lot of the time it is not needed, but when it is it's extremely effective. As for mana problems, you'd probably want to get a point booster-based item of some sort now that you no longer get +20 int up to level 25, or you could just get a shivas (which has a counter-synergy with axe if he uses blademail, but should still be good).

But I guess it'd take some axe games to figure out what to get when, right now the hero looks really strong.

Which means you would expound tons of mana only to do those two calls. The problems presented by the mana can be remedied by another item but that would mean more costs, certainly more than the 1200 gold that Abyssal asks. Aby lets you Call a specific target, 3.2sec long magic-immunity-piercing disable, use Aby and another 2 sec magic-immunity-piercing disable, wait for both effects to finish ofc, which would give enough time to cast another Call which is a magic-immunity-piercing disable.

All while your team mops the enemy team because they are fighting a 4v5 at the very least if you only called one, let your team kill the other enemies or focus on the called enemy(ies). And you don't need to upgrade and spend that much on mana enhancing items.

Refresher looks good, but it would require more resources. Axe can certainly fulfill those resources but there are other things those very resources could be used on. Perhaps lategame? Everyone else buying Rapiras, while you buy a Refresher. Refresher is good, not just optimal.
