db staff alrdy commented that the rankings will be reworked once ti5 ends, and it will happen rather soon.
Yeah it's quite stupid TBH, you don't have to play any tournament game with the hero and can have a shitty winrate with him but if you have a good professional rank and ~50 games on the hero you're guaranteed to be in the top 100.
I suggest that the professional division is completely removed, put professional players on the same divison as normal players (99% of them would probably be Diamond 10) but they get bonus points from winning a tournament match and the tournament match can also be ranked aswell so you get far more bonus points on the hero if you win a TI match than the match of some local league.
My general thoughts on how ratings could be improved:
Number of games played would be taken into account a little bit more, but more logarithmically, e.g. going from 50 to 200 games would be a big difference but going from 500 to 1000 would be less.
There should be fewer brackets, and then your games are separated by bracket, the rating for games in each bracket is calculated separately, and the largest taken as the final rating. So you don't have to worry about ruining a rating by stacking with shitter friends or playing 4am dota.
Also it could be separated by role with each role having different stats taken into account. For example, if you normally play a hero as a core you shouldn't be punished for playing them as support and getting lower kda.
Professional could be an added bonus, but only if the player actually plays that hero competitively. It wouldn't make sense for a competitive carry player to get bonus points on rankings for a support.
Glad they're gonna rework this, I'm someone that really likes to play Pudge and I'm rank #18 Pudge ATM and the guy that is on rank #17 has only 45 games on Pudge while I have 1075, will be interesting to see on which rank I will be after they reworked it.
When you have Dotabuff Plus you can see other player's ranks also ? I am asking this because I was wondering what is my current rank on riki :(
No, you can only see your own with plus (in addition to the top 100s that everyone can see).
They really need to take into account recent games too, not all-time.
For example, my ursa is rated top 200 or something because I absolutely rekt 3ks 3 years ago with it when I was learning the game, then I play a few games here and there to move my division up, now apparently I'm a top ursa (I don't agree with that)...
.. On the flip side I think I have a mean anti-mage. But because I had no idea how to use him, in addition to retards not knowing how to play with an anti-mage (again, 3 years ago when learning) my win rate was like 30% with him. I'm at more like 60-70% with him now, but because of the all-time score my average is still like 50% and apparently I'm a trash anti-mage according to rankings.
Yeah, having an exponential decay on the weight of a game based on how old it is (so that everything is still taken into account, just not as much if it's old) plus weighting someone's winrate on a hero against their overall winrate (since any winrate >50% means either they calibrated too low or are in stomp stacks) would actually improve the current rankings a lot.
I'm a little concerned when they say they want to "take stacking into account" or whatever the exact wording is. A stomp stack will inflate both winrate and kda. Stacking with 3ks might increase kda due to being the best player in the game but isn't really good for winrate. A perfectly normal stack will probably do neither. The problem is, I haven't actually played a solo ranked game in months because I find it completely unenjoyable, and I wouldn't want to be punished for that.

I dont think its fair that professional players and players that have played in some random leagues get the professional divison and increase their individual hero score without much effort.
As somebody who has been playing a lot of visage and trying to increase my rank, the "professionals" have their score inflated just because they are professional.
Honestly it would be best if you seperate "normal" and "professional" divisions so that its fair.
