I agree with Licecolony if all the carries are equally competent, but at "Normal Skill", a lot of carry players are either recklessly aggressive or hopelessly unaware. Even with escape skills and even a support helping him, such players will still only feed. I'd suggest you find the most competent core player and support him to victory, knowing that the enemy team also has plenty of feeders he can eat.
it is like asking the question: if john has 4 apples and tim has 5 oranges, what is colour of your mama?
Go with the one with most kills, normal skill enemies will try to focus on the one with the most kills at that moment, even if a passive AM is farming top freely, they'll all group and go for the bloodseeker who got a couple early kills and is defending bot maybe
better skill player, regardless if he's 0-5 (not mmr, skill ->with so many boosted cuunts and fake mmr and hero abusers and shit)
That would work in higher skill, but being in normal skill, I can guarantee that the team in lead will always focus the person doing the best at that moment on enemy, not the person who could bring enemy team back.
its normally very clear after 10mins who is worth saving. if they haven't got farm at 10mins it is a safe bet that they belong at that or lower mmr - let them do their thing and hang out with the guy who has farm and is getting kills - you'll get more farm from assists that way as well.
obviously different outside of normal skill where people gank and harass to stop cores farming but don't give anyone the benefit of the doubt if they haven't proved themselves worth supporting after 10mins unless there is a really good reason for it.
1 competent core and 1 competent support working together will win most games in normal (by competent i mean relative to the match'es avg mmr)

It's situational. Generally i stick with the carry which is performing closest to the necessary state (farm, levels, skill) to achieve the next crucial objective (down a tower, take roshan, etc).
However, there are situations where i will follow the other less skilled players around, especially when if they die it will lead to a tilt, i.e their death causes the enemy to push toward the next objective.
The rationale is, if i can help turn an incoming gank into enemy deaths (assuming the carry teammate isnt totally brain dead), then it could push my team closer to the state necessary to win.
Other than that, in a passive-farm game, i would be spending time on other objectives, like warding, pulling, stacking etc
Benao 4,091 games - 62 friendly (commendations in total 187 = every 21st game one commendation)
Hot Sauce 567 games - 53 friendly (commendations in total 82 = every 6th game one commendation)
Commends during beta phase were so easy, you could commend for all 4 qualities together, I dont know how to attach my picture without uploading it on a website, and i'm too lazy but I have more commends then i've ever got
i get easier commends as a guy with a porfile picture of a dog than as a guy with a profile picture of anime boobfalls
i had my face for the longest time. and i didnt abuse commends back in the days and when they ask me what commend i want i say leader :D!
besides people rarely commend in my bracket!!!!!!!!!
i dont ask for commends
welp. i dont belong to that bracket anyway, its my old account.
people there are so easy to please. u just 1v5 the opposing team and commends be rolling
hence the 53 friendly commends. SEA peeps r just 2 lazy
You don't stand behind anyone, you actually roam around and accomplish shit on the map instead of being a deny / pull bot
And they are tangible. You can suck on them too.
Commends on the other hand are no more than a bunch of pixels.

if you are the solo (defensive) support in a 4 core lineup. and every1 is split around the map. who do you choose to stand behind and why?
