that scene with quill was definitely in-character. he has done stupid shit out of his emotions many times before that. besides, it was part of the future doctor strange foresaw anyway, otherwise he would have interfered.

this level of stupid also occured when doctor strange gave thanos the time stone despite all the "I'LL RATHER HAVE YOU TWO DIE THAN GIVING UP THE TIME STONE" before that

it doesnt matter it was in character, its just boring writing. instead of having thanos win at every corner like the classic cartoon villain which seems to have the upper hand in every encounter but at the end he loses somehow, id much rather want to see thanos take a loss and see him recover from that rather than i win i win i win oops im evil so i lose at the very end

i rather felt like thanos won only because the main cast was full of dumbasses
other than that he definitely wasn't portrayed as super strong, nearly undefeatable villain - rather being super lucky and surviving assassination attempts just by chance

i mean he was only strong because of infinity stones anyway. he is okay but aint got shit on dormammu or galactus or w/e. if they made thanos lose in this movie, it would be pretty bad honestly. i know its pretty much just a way for them to raise excitement for the next movie but whats the point if not even the strongest villain wins, at least for a while.

superhero movies are generally very bad from the point of view of cinema as, uhm, art.
iw was quite fun and better than most other marvel movies.

i can only recall two good superhero movies (or shall i call it 4?) - watchmen and nolan's batman trilogy. others are low level money makers.

watchmen is quite boring tbh. nolan trilogy is fine but i do think it is quite overrated overall. if i had to choose one superhero movie thats really good i would go with ca: the winter soldier probably

boredoom and quality live on different axes.
for a clear example, i see citizen kane as good but boring, and very scary movie as bad but fun.

watchmen was good, but its less entertaining than most of the marvel production.
dark knight is generally one of the best films in the history of cinema, which is quite an achievemnt for a genre of movies that is supposed to focus entirely on entertaining the audience.
