Mouse Sensitivity - what DPI you use? in General Discussion

I watch pro players like EE, SingSing and they have very fast DPIs..
It allows them to scroll through the map with relative ease albeit can cause dizziness when you watch them :p

I have always been around 1250 dpi... I tried adjusting it faster but I had a hard time during lane phase when I have this micro mouse movements to get last hits, draw creep aggro, etc

Whats yours? Whats effective? Is a faster DPI a must?
Do people lose a lot of game sense "fast map scrolling" with a lower DPI?

      Yo black, 1.5k DPI here.

Mouse has 8200dpi, but I run at 800 sensitivity. It's fairly low for most people I guess, but I am used to it and like it. I find low sensitivity better for accuracy and with practice you can be just as fast.

You don't really need much more than that, this gives you precision you need to make small movements but simply moving your arm faster on a physical level allow for the large movements that high dpi gives as well

^ what do you mean? so its not actually high dpi for pro players? they just move their arms faster and repetitively?

I was under the impression that they have significantly higher DPIs

              MARLAN

                no.

I believe low sensitivity to be much better for competitive play. Most players will agree with me on this I think.

High sensitivity is a misconception by noobs who simply think "bigger is better".

And FYI: DPI is not the same as Sensitivity.

DPI is the precision of your mouse.
Sensitivity is how much your cursor moves in relation to your DPI.

The same sensitivity on a higher DPI will move your mouse more, the same as how a higher sensitivity will move your mouse more with the same DPI, it's because it's a direct relationship. But techincally, DPI is not the speed of your mouse.

Edit: Oh, it seems the "sensitivity" setting is actually just lowering my DPI it seems. So I'm actually running at 800 DPI I think. IDK

                  2k is perfect

                  Bad Intentions

^it gets hard to get used to 2k dpi, but yea, once you got a hang of it, its gut.

normal/high skill (me included) shouldnt comment / give advice

I have no clue wtf DPI is, but my previous mouse had a shithigh amount of DPI, 8k or osme shit, although I think I used 800.

                        What is DPI? ELI5

^basically how fast your mouse moves. dpi (dots per inch). so you move your mouse by 1 inch and it moves the cursor by 800 pixels (i think? :P)

DPI is the standard used to measure the mouse sensitivity, expressed as the number of DPIs (dots per linear inch) that a device can detect. By changing the DPI, you can instantly adjust pointer speed for precision tasks, such as in-game targeting or photo editing.

It seemed to me that pro players like EE, Arteezy, SingSing, Dendi etc have configured high DPI mouse sensitivity just by watching how they pan through the map.

One of the posts here claimed that they just move their arm fast enough. Its hypothetically possible but I find it odd as its more troublesome to move your arm quick, lift the mouse and move it again unless you have a very wide desk space to do all this movement.

                              DPI is not sensitivity.

DPI is the smoothness/accuracy of the mouse.

I think my previous example wasn't very good. Here's a better one.

Mouse with DPI of 10,000 and sensivity of 0.0000001 will mean your mouse will move across the screen perfectly smoothly like a baby's buttered bottom, albeit extremely slowly.

Mouse with DPI of 1 and sensitivity of 1000 will mean if you even touch your mouse, it will go across the entire screen. Not smooth at all. If it was a less exaggerated value you would notice it being jagged and jumpy. Very unsmooth.

Pro's liek them also use Keybinds to shoot around the map like the rune ones, also they have accelerated edge panning which you may confuse for a higher DPI cause Singx2 looks like he has normal DPI.

Make sure to use LOW DPI when you can. Your mouse may "skip" pixels, because the actual mouse sensor can only detect so many DPI; anything higher causes the signal to get lost in the noise of the photo diode that actually detects movement. This causes accuracy issues; as most mouse sensors are actually 800-1600 DPI; anything above this creates interpolation and/or noise from detection methods above the resolution of the sensor.

I've tried highDPI/VeryLowSens in CS:GO; and it makes a MASSIVE difference from LowDPI/LowSens. The mouse movement just didn't seem smooth at the high DPI; there was just something "off" about it. I use a Logitech g400s at 800DPI, with mouse raw input enabled.

                                              ^ That is lower sensitivity

The ability for the mouse sensor to be more accurate is the DPI rating...

It will only skip pixels if your sensitivity modifier makes your dpi higher than your mouse is rated for

2500 dpi. trying to get used to more so im raising it once in a while.

Im not pro, but lately im looking to improve my control. Watching s4 and do a research on it. I came to conclusion that higher dpi is better(to the level that suit you). Not because i try to be pro, but if you use middle mouse to move your camera. You will realise that hero can only move 1 screen at the time and 2 at most, so tracking your hero 1 screen at a time improve my precision. Also the cursor remain at the target most of the time. Where as edge pan you have your cursor to the edge and back to the target. Also the most importand point is that your mouse movement is very small. I notice a big different with my hand. Before i play with 800dpi and my mouse get drag a lot. With 2400dpi and 6/11 sensitivity. My hand hardly move. But of course practice make perfect.

My mouse was set at 3k so I've been using 3k. It helps because I don't have a lot of space on my table so the are my mouse has is pretty low

                                                        Pilot

1600 DPI 4 Sensitivity. Works fine for me

                                                          гриндр

It matters what screen size do u have. I have 27" & 2560x resolution, so my DPI is pretty high (if I remember correctly it's 4600). Tbh it doesn't mean shit, just play what u feel comfortable. You have no idea how EE/RTZ move their mouse. They can have v. low DPI, but just move mouse rapidly.
