Shouldn't game be fun? For most players, a small amount of new items/heroes make it more interesting. However, a huge share of 4k+ players take dota2 as some sort of sports where to win is more important than to enjoy the process. However, updates are aimed to satisfy majority's needs, not the tryharders'.
I feel the same way, aren't you sick of grinding the same heroes in the same way? This opens up the game a lot, makes it entirely new almost. New strats to learn, heroes interact differently with new items etc.
I am in as well, looks fun.
Interesting. But below are my thoughts:
To me, there is more to Dota than just Items, Skills and Heroes. This is one of the few games where E-Sport made some solid ground because of the sport-like concepts it employs while playing.
We are in the very early stages of E-Sport industry and we don't have an idea on how will this evolve years from now. But looking at the typical sports who battled the test of time - let's say basketball.. did it ever change on how the ball bounced? Officiating, Rules, introduction of 3pt line, these were all changes to improve the game.. the so-called "meta" has evolved, from power-based Centers to finesse-type of bigs, etc.. but they're still using the same ball. To me, the addition of this ludicrous items is tantamount to i.e. adding a 5-PT line, modifying to a zig-zag 3-pt line, or worst-case adding a new basketball.
It might be too early and I might be blinded to what will come about and maybe Sports and E-Sports are only comparable to some extent and that the advantage of technology is actually something that E-Sports should take advantage of. I don't know, I'm not sure.
Maybe it's just me, maybe it's because I'm just the traditional, classic type of player who believes that mastery of Dota 2 is about Decision-Making, Thought Process and Teamwork. Not about BIG ITEM changes because all the stuff is becoming plain, old and boring.
My biggest concern is that Dota was already quite an overwhelming game to start - the more heroes and items there are the less welcoming it is to new players.
Soon there's going to need to be a limited items queue...
I think 6.84b is going to be a vintage patch once the new items have been tweaked.
Nothing changed about the ball. You still have laning phase, you still farm creeps, you still push lanes, you still have team fights, you still have that guy trying to rat, you still break rax, and you still blow up the throne. Nothing has changed at the base level of the game. It's the higher up decision making that has changed. Ball HANDLING has changed, but nothing has changed about the ball itself.
And every major patch dramatically changes the game, just so happens to be item heavy this time. Still waiting for a new orb of venom item.
@BlackXargon
Someone also changed the shape of the ball in soccer, A game of rugby was invented. This also evolved into American football.
Both are popular today..
I am just saying, a sport has changed a ball, and it has worked out well.
But I agree with dipshit, such an extreme change hasn't happened in DOTA, The point of the game is the same, just some of the accessories are different. This is like the equivalent to maybe a new style of cricket bat or tennis racket.
Also look up your basketball history, the ball has changed:
The first basketball games were played with soccer balls. However, they proved to be unsuitable for dribbling and ball handling. The first manufactured basketballs were produced in 1894 by a bicycle manufacturing company. In the late 1890's Spalding took over as the official ball maker. In 1905 the choice of basketballs was left up to the teams. Because of their inability to maintain their shape and their laces, these early brown leather basketballs were hard to dribble. In 1929 basketballs were re-designed for more bounce and with concealed laces which eliminated erratic bounces. The balls were bigger, lighter and easier to handle. In 1942 molded basketballs that maintained a constant shape and size replaced the stitched balls. In 1967 the American Basketball Association (ABA) played with a red, white and blue basketball. Today, the WNBA and FIBA use contrasting panels. The men's ball is 30" in circumference and the smaller women's ball is 29" in circumference.
The way basketball was played has definitely changed. The rules and way it's officiated has changed. One simple example is how large centers were very key and important back in the day. Today, there are less and less true centers and most teams don't need one.
beta males are so desperate to try and make e sports into a mainstream thing so they might finally get laid

BALANCING THE GAME DOESN'T MEAN INTRODUCING NEW ITEMS AND WAIT TIL WHAT KIND OF META WE COME UP WITH.
THIS IS NOT HOW ICEFROG BALANCES DOTA.
I only read the hero change log and didn't care much about the items NOT KNOWING THAT IT WILL CHANGE THE ENTIRE DAMN THING.
What are we going to expect now in the future? That we'll be playing an entirely new game every time??
