How the hell, does someone with a 36% winrate stay in very high
and why does volvo keep matching him up with me

It would be different story if this wasn't an obvious troll smurf.

Talking about the account you posted, not your smurfing account ass.

          Relentless

Based on extremely high stats in the first two games of this account relative to the other players in the games Valves anti-smurf function placed this player in "Very High" by the third game on the account.

Once there, it requires a long slow loss of MMR for them to drop back to a score that reflects the true level at which they are typically playing. For instance if they jumped to about 4.5k MMR initially, and since then their record has been 23-44 they are still at just under 4k MMR and will have to lose about another net 20 games before they will show up mostly in High games instead of Very High.

The system does not track quick changes in skill. This is why someone who has a large difference in their true potential from the recent performance can be largely over-rated or underrated. For instance, the difference between my best and worst heroes typical performance is about 1,500 MMR points. So if I pick my best heroes, I start easily winning nearly every game. And if I pick my worst heroes, I start losing nearly every game.

Valve has no way to verify pre-game who is going to try-hard to win this particular time and who is going to play drunk, "for fun", while eating pizza in one hand and talking on the phone... or just intentionally throwing, the MMR can be completely incorrect. Most people do not perform with anything like game to game consistency.

My record for Lich => 48-15. My record for Visage 1-10. Regardless of which I pick my MMR is the same, but if I pick Lich only a really terrible team can force me to lose... (I even have games against pro players with Lich where I out-laned and ultimately defeated them) and if I pick Visage we will only win if the other team disconnects.

For me, win rate means almost nothing. I couldn't care less about a few missed hooks, mistimed skill shots or whatever. This account is hovering inbetween the high and VH bracket at the moment, take a look at this "VH" game.

I won't pretend that I played well, and I don't care about others having an off game. What I truly cannot understand is how someone like Zeus can end up in a game like this, he picked last and went mid even though storm was there (and had called mid from the very start). That isn't the end of it though, this guy clearly has not played the game before in his life, he has QB, tangoes and afks at the tower, completely gimping storms XP (who was a decent player from what I saw), but there was nothing he could do with half xp against NS who pretty much went HAM. One of the few games that I literally could not give the slightest shit about from the first minute, storm eventually abandoned and I felt pretty bad for him.

This was a surprising game, mainly because it was the first time in that session that i had some good allies, like ones that could actually play. Except for TB, who in 25 minutes of free farm had like treads, bracer and yasha, maybe an ogres axe too. Free farm. FREE FARM TB. 25 minutes in with those items? Are you fucking kidding me? While we had decent ganking potential, which we were doing quite well, we just couldn't take team fights practically 4v5, so I would keep pressuring elsewhere around the map and forcing TPs where I could, trying to buy time for TB to get some items up. I probably should have bought BKB, but either way we managed to come back after going down 2 raxes. This game would have been over in 25 minutes if TB was even half decent..

edit: that wasn't the worst out of session either, try lets never help slark gank but start pinging him when he won't team fight an ES, ET and Zeus even though we were too retarded to pick a decent lineup, or an aghs "rush" pudge against a team with multiple stuns that refused to by armor, or a last picker invoker that commands other people to buy wards and pretends to be a core player with his 37 cs in a 40 minute game, wp wp
