I can tell you that Take Aim does make you stand off if you're a melee and use it. Much like using a ranged aiblity like Frost Arrow, Liquid Fire, Burning Spear go from ranged.
Take Aim gives you a melee attack with >128 range; it can happen; see Tiny/Doom.
Everything is treated like you're melee, but you have around 400 range.

Melee = no missile speed, that's the difference between "ranged" heroes and "melee" ones. So it's still possible to be considered a melee hero with an attack range on par with ranged heroes. e.g. with max Take Aim a melee hero can have 128 + 400 attack range.

will the effect change when heroes like tb, dk, troll change form to be ranged ?
another related question in ability draft. will the effect changed if a melee hero like pudge has sniper 3rd skill or drow's frost arrow ?
