luna is op

Needs so much farm and proper teammates for her to actually be useful. If she has a rough start, she probably won't be able to come back. When she is farmed, the game is already decided because somehow the enemy team let Luna freefarm.

Here's some stat's to throw at this.

After 6.80 was patched and until 2/12/2014
48 total games worth of stats.

doesn't need farm to provide that early pushing presence, which makes her a great 1 in most push lineups

Her nuke range is really good so if you're in a good tri you will get a lot of kills in it. The aura is crazy good and that makes her damage so strong early game- late game. The galives are op since they bounce back, focusing heroes are easy now + towers/rax will demolish. Her ult is good and can deal a lot of damage if there are just heroes around. All you need for luna is a bkb and manta and you can say gg towers/heroes

ok, so she is clearly the number 1 carry atm. i dont think anyone will disagree

lets talk about her counters

which specific heroes or strats counter her?

IF she is not with a tri-lane, most combos will wreck her, thus preventing her to farm up and be useful midgame. Bane mirana, tuskar, heroes with good burst damage/stun at the early stages of the game

i Think luna fits quite well into the current meta as her ult can make her very strong in team fights from early on her farming ability is huge just take over a creep and start stacking ancients and her push is great aswell she can slot in great into any lineup no matter what ur teams goal

she is really squishy, any gank with a disable will work.

the secret to win against Luna is to gank her 2~3 times and keep the pressure
even if her laning is bad, she can comeback by farming stacks, so warding her jungle and keeping an eye on the ancient camp is essential.

In solo situations, Storm Spirit and Lanaya are pretty good against her.

No, she's actually strong since early game.
However, she's not hard to shut down with a strong agressive tri.

Ez buy sentries ward all of the enemy camps and push real hard. Golf Wang is right, all you need is some burst early game and just keep killing luna making sure she does farm + warding the jungle so you can gank over and over. Btw make sure you ward their ancients.

her relationship with chen is also kinda interesting.

6.79 / chen on same team = 67% winrate
6.79 / chen on opposing team = 44% winrate

there are two obvious reasons for this, chen creeps counter eclipse and chen is one of the heroes that scale best with her lunar blessing due to his creeps receiving the buff as well.

Visage is good against her early game, but suffers somewhat late. Familiars get hit by glaives, and she doesn't need that gold. Nuke works decently well with her.

Solid options :

Bane - SS anyone with a solid long stun or disable/hard nuke. I feel you need to end against her somewhat mid game ish, right before she gets 11/bkb. Anymore and you're pushing that point of where it's a bit late to come back from. After that 35-40 min mark, You need to be ahead hard if you're planning on winning.

how's scepter on luna?

I can't stand that item on her. Sure it's stats and an increased ult, but I feel there are better items for the cost. 4200 is near Manta cost, more than Bkb, and at the point to which you need both of those core items, I feel Scepter AFTER Bkb+Manta is far to late to be getting scepter. It would have lost it's effectiveness imho.

What do you guys get as your 6th item on Luna?

I normally go, treads -> BoTs, bkb, hotd -> satanic, manta, butterfly and I always seem to have an aegis in 6th so i finish with 5-7k gold

Team Empire just drafted luna :)

by the time u can afford aghs its useless anyways the enemy will all have bkb's

Boots of Travel, BKB, Satanic, Manta, Butterfly and then it depends on the enemy team:

MKB for evasion purposes.
Ethereal Blade for heavy physical damage.
Divine Rapier as your last resort.
Daedalus for damage.
Eye of Skadi for survivability and chasing.

If the game goes late enough, consider buying another BKB.

Even through Luna is considered the number 1 carry in the current meta, in solo situations she can't stand against a lot of carriers like PA, Lifestealer, etc.

6th item on Luna is Rapier bro, full yolo mode >:D
Nothing can stop a 6 slotted Rapier Luna, except perhaps a Void. And of course getting perma disabled.

at 6th slot probably you would need MKB, since building daedalus will cancel her cleave
With MKB you can destroy tower & rax so fast
After wiping 5 man, you can directly destroy their 6 barracks

But i doubt she will need 6th slots because game usually finished far before that

you can build her exactly the same as gyro, troll and medusa except medusa would go linken instead of BkB and troll will go dae instead of MKB

My luna really sucks right now. She used to be my go to carry before. My favorite build was tranquils, yasha, bkb, manta then luxury items. Now I can't win shit with her and I usually feed. What's the best item build progression for her right now?

Treads -> Drums if you need early fighting / Dominator if you need farming / BKB if you're getting fucked up -> Manta/BKB -> Butterfly -> gg no re

6th slot really depends on what you are up against. My usual choices are MKB/Daedalus/Rapier. Sometimes Skadi can work wonders, I guess.

There was a fucking game where I supported a luna in AP, where the kid builds SB INTO AGHS.
I say something like -

Melody :Oh please tell me that is not Aghs
Rand : It's good, trust me.
Melody : You know they never build that in professional games right?
Rand : You know this isn't a professional game?
Melody : Yeah, I do. I also know they don't build it because it's bad.

ok it's maybe better in dota2 but still the damage bonus from crit doesn't affect her moon glaive, MKB does

Itembuild really depends on what you need - if you need to get fast BkB, go for it, it really makes a lot of sense, since she is really squishy.
If your team can 4v5 for 20 minutes or so - go for Helm of Dominator and Yasha - by 21-23 min mark it is possible to have PT, BkB, Dominator and Yasha with some stacking.

Aghanims was better in dota1 where it modified a bit your hero model to make it look cooler and shinier. Except for Luna and Leshrac. They only got lame floating spikes around them.

6.81 - Aghanim's now increases Luna's butt size.

Midas is awful on Luna.
She is already squishy and people love to gank her, Midas would just increase her sexyness (people would just gank her way more)

For 2050 gold, you should build drums, yasha or hotd.

The item Luna needs to flash farm is Helm of the Dominator, with the lifesteal she can farm the jungle and stack ancients.

playing luna is ez on ez games.... go on a lane and ask supports to babysit u-> get domi-> stack ancients-> farm for 20 min-> yes dont get midas i think stacking ancients is much more better-> get BKB

If that were true DK, Gyro would be top tier. Not Luna first pick / ban every game.

Gyro has more AoE damage.
But Luna has her aura and the recent buff to Moon glaives made it a little better than Flak cannon.

The change on Flak Cannon cd has nerfed Gyro really hard... he can't spam it anymore, 30 sec cd way too long

Luna has beautiful eyes.

She is really boring to play with, but oh well i kind of hate all heroes that you NEED to get bkb.

I see too many pro's building midas on luna rather than building HoD first. A support might be able to stack for them, but that is another thing a support has to do while roaming, and the HoD lifesteal is also needed to take down the stack effectively and safely.

Midas also puts stress on the luna's item slots, causing many carry players to skip wand, or less often skip basi/aquila. Luna needs an HoD and a bkb before damage items can come online in most games. With a midas and treads that makes 4 items. Then you factor in TP and thats 5 items. wand or basi/aquila ends up being cut and frankly both are great mid game items for luna.

Some games the early midas makes sense, but luna is a carry with strong early and mid game presences due to her beam, her aura, and her ulti. Unless she is going to afk rice in safe lane for 17 minutes, i feel skipping midas is a better option in competitive play.

Admiral Bulldog did this blink dagger sceptre build in one game which seemed good at the time. I guess it has more effectiveness early game.

Luna is among one of the best carries in the game and has impact in both early and late. A lot of people consider her a massively late game carry but I disagree having played her offlane quite a bit you are able to out last hit the enemy carry having higher base damage than most.

She can tend to be boring but that is why people do weird things with her to move away from the norm that tends to bore most. I went thru a forcestaff phase with her while playing offlane and it was quite effective and fun to do but wouldn't do it if I was to say build has the hard carry.

Suggestions for unconventional item choices? Skadi?
