Yes and no. There's no ACTUAL limit, but let's say you achieve an ultra high MMR like 7,5k. There are no other players with MMR close to yours. Thus you'll be queued with lower MMR players, say 5-6k. 1,5k MMR is a huge difference. So, if you win, the algorithm will act like: it was pretty obvious you were gonna win, so you get almost no points (+1, even +0 is possible).
This way, even if there's no MMR limit, you won't be able to improve any further.
If I recall correctly there was some guy with 7k+ MMR. He was stacking & abusing LPQ like no tomorrow.
In theory there is always a limit, yet it's probably impossible to reach. (It could also be something as simple as 9999)
as sano wrote u wont get any points for wins most of the time and losses will hurt you big time when you rating is far above other top rated players
must have been quiet high in pub then, because losing points for wins was common in calibration games.
You can't get much higher MMR than the ppl just below you. I doubt anyone has 7k. That would require defeating a bunch of players with 6.7k many times and such players don't exist either.
Probably the most MMR anyone in the world has is close to 6.5k MMR. I doubt there are more than 100 players over 6k MMR. Most of those would be people actually on the top 20-30 pro teams in the world.
Stacking a bunch of LPQ games or whatever its going to be hard to even get to 5k MMR because you have to beat people who are that high to do it. You can't get more points from ppl more than a few hundred below you.
I remember that guy having 99.8% winrate with several hundred games.
I believe he posted screenshot of his "dota_account_debug" where his rating was near if not over 7k
Can't find the thread on Dotabuff. :-(
Screenshots can be edited extremely easily. And someone who would abuse games enough to get almost 100% winrate would never rise to near the top of MMR.
Highly doubt he tried to fake it.
He was mad about dotabuff not including him in top players.
It's similar to chess elo, on one hand there is no limit , on the other hand you can't be much higher than the rest og the top players. The highest valid MMR is a little less than 6,2k
no its completely different
you cant compare 1v1 to 5v5
the more skilled player can always or at least very reliably win a 1v1 in a largely skill based game
what happens in dota is that your MMR represents an expectation of your in game impact
so if your MMR is a lot higher than anyone elses in the game you still dont have a game that's far away from 50% win expectation for each side
what ends up happening is that the remaining members of your team are on average worse than the 4 members of the best player on the different team
so no matter how high your MMR is you'll still lose or gain the same amount of points since games are still balanced to be 50/50
it's different when there are stacks and highly unbalanced games are found so that there's a really high chance for a team to win
(thats when you get +2/3 party ranking points on a win)

I stopped solo, cause queue was ~50min average
And i can confirm winning less point, the higher you get, I started at 5k9 where i had roughly +23 -27 and now it's rather +15 -35
Imo you cann't get far above 6k7 even with 100% win
Rofl 6.5k Relentless what tha fuck nobody have it. matrice with 6200 is probably top 10 or top 5 so 6300 is max of the max but I don`t think anyone have more than 6250.
You're french? J'aime la France :D
Could you talk a bit about Slark gameplay? I like the hero but don't have any practice (played like 10 games in Dota 2)
Skill builds, item builds, what do seek in the game etc
i refuse to believe ingenaabs stack have 6k+ in solo and party, your stack is the shittiest one in eu right after fadis stack
ingee is only 5k7 now
and yup i'm french; about my slark, tank item tank item tank item, a bit of as there and there, no bkb
and then for skill build, fuck your opponent out of lane, with what is needed, and then max darkpact if not already done
It's possible current #1 is 6.3k. It's possible matrice is even the current #1 in the world. All I'm saying is there is no way its much higher than 6.5k and certainly 7k is imaginary. You can only go higher when there are players a few hundred below you to beat.
You could win a hundred games to zero against people 500 MMR lower and still not go up.
^stop talking for once
@matrice
5.7k? his brood is so fucking bad its not even funny
gj getting 6.1k by picking slark i guess
@matrice
The numbers on your screenshot does not look equal ( compare left 6 - right 6 or left 8 - right 8 )
looks like image manipulation for me...
you may have a good rating, but the numbers on the screenshot look "embellished" ...
watched many slark replays from matrice ineye. imo one of the best slarks out there.
